The Second Life company’s official partner is Childhood Cancer Fund Rugute, based and registered in Lithuania (registration Nr. 300070090).

Rugute works to help children diagnosed with cancer and their families in various ways. 

Social Support for the Families

The Fund supports families by providing food, equipment and medicine necessary in the course of the treatment. The Fund, in a bid to protect patients’ rights to availability of modern treatment marked with quality and effectiveness, pays for individual consultations and covers partial cost of treatment expenses in foreign clinics. 

The House of Rugute 

House of Rugute is a small cottage near Vilnius University Children’s Hospital, which offers its facilities for short-term accommodation for children cancer patients to spend quality time with their families. 

Making Dreams Come True for Children with Cancer

One of the Fund’s most sensitive projects is aimed at dreams come true for children suffering from cancer. They dream of various things. www.rugute.lt/en

Reviewing Research on Childhood Cancer 

The Fund pays particular attention to preparing and spreading information about children’s cancer and prospects for treatment to the children’s families. All information compiled by Rugute is available to the public on www.rugute.lt/en

Annual Event the Island of Friends 

The Fund as of the year 2006 has been organizing an annual meeting called The Island of Friends. The event is held to bring together families of a similar fate, encourage them to share social and medical information, experiences, thoughts and feelings as well as provide the children with a day of miracles.

Christmas is the Time of Miracles 

Each year the Fund organizes a campaign named Christmas is the Time of Miracles. In the framework of the event children patronized by the Fund are visited and receive Christmas presents.

Blood Drive 

The Fund calls on inhabitants to follow its example and give a drop of blood for children suffering from cancer as well as to become active promoters of free blood donorship. The House of Rugute hosts the Blood Drive twice every year. 

Under the Angel’s Wings 

The House of Rugute hosts regular meetings of a self help group Under the Angel’s Wings for parents who lost their children to cancer.
